BTEC students got a masterclass from industry professionals on event production.
Held in the Idris Elba Film Studio at the East London Institute of Technology, the session was led by a trio of female industry professionals. The students learnt about the different roles and responsibilities within event management and live event production and different pathways to reach their future career aspirations. The masterclass was organised by Millie Price from Serious, in conjunction with the London Jazz Festival.
Jessina Khan, 18, who is studying Level 3 Production Arts Practice talks about the experience: “I found this workshop extremely informative as well as inspiring. I've learnt lot more about the industry which has given me an insight about what I want to do in the future.”
The session leaders said:
Sophie Hewlett, Freelance Producer/Former Head of Producing at Somerset House says: “It was really inspiring to spend time talking with the students about different pathways into a career in live event production and reflecting on my own experience. It's so great to see a course in Production Arts that offers such brilliant, practical and real-world opportunities and experiences.”
Claire Sivier, Producer, Researcher and Artist comments: “It was really great to sit down and speak so candidly with such an inspiring and inquisitive group of young people. The college is clearly a nurturing space for the next generation entering the creative industries.”
Rachel Jackson, Senior Festival Programmer & Producer adds: “It was a fantastic honour to chat with the enthusiastic and skilled students. I left feeling inspired by their already evident expertise and insight into the music industry.”
